Lee Wright lives in northwest Georgia with his wife and a houseful of pets. For nearly twenty years, he has worked in the local television industry and is currently the senior producer and office smartass for a marketing agency in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Haint Blue, his first attempt at a play, was begun shortly after seeing a Chattanooga Theatre Centre (CTC) production of Terrence McNally’s Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune. The setting for the story was inspired by his honeymoon trip to Savannah in the summer of 2004. This play was written specifically for entry in the CTC’s 2007-08 Festival of New Plays Contest and won first prize, which included a full production with three week run.
The play, directed by Patrick Sweetman, premiered on March 26, 2008 on the CTC’s circle stage, a black box style theatre with approximately 110 seats. It ran for eight evening performances (not including an invited dress rehearsal) and played to crowds ranging in size from 30 to 100 people.
